I am a registered counsellor with the Australian Counselling Association.

I bring 25 years of experience in developing and enabling individuals and teams working in community service settings. I am trained and  accredited in the Rise Up model of individual and group supervision.

I apply this evidence based framework along with my first hand knowledge of complex operating environments to support the development of safe and effective professional practice to meet the needs of clients.

Individual and Couples Therapy

My approach

My therapeutic approach prioritises the creation of a compassionate and authentic connection with clients. I work collaboratively with clients to ensure they feel safe, respected and empowered to move toward their chosen goals.

I integrate elements of multiple modalities including; person centered, solution focused, motivational interviewing and acceptance, commitment therapies.

With couples I integrate interventions from the research based Gottman therapy.  

Sessions

  • I offer a free 15 minute phone consultation prior to booking a session.

  • Face to face sessions available in Brisbane, zoom and phone sessions also available

  • Sessions run for 1 hour 

  • Cost of a session is $125 p/hr.

I believe in the importance of caring for those who care for others.  People working in the community services sector deserve high quality support that enables them to effectively reflect and grow in their professional practice while ensuring adequate self care to avoid the very real risks of burn out and compassion fatigue. 

I bring together 25 years of first hand experience in supporting people working in the not for profit sector with accredited training in the Rise Up model of professional supervision. 

Sessions

  • Individual sessions run for 1 hour 

  • Individual supervision $125 p/hr.

I offer individual supervision to professionals working in social work and client or community service and support roles utilising the Rise Up supervision model. This approach incorporates a focus on client work, administration, self care and professional development. 

I also offer group supervision for teams working in all areas of community services. Sessions can be structured to meet the specific needs of the group and organisation.

Throughout my career as a senior manager, CEO and Director working in the community services sector I actively sought out mentors and coaches who were external to my organisation but had an understanding of the unique challenges presented in this environment.

About Sonya

I commenced my community services career in 2000, joining the Australian Red Cross where I worked for 12 years in corporate and client focused roles.

In 2010, I completed an Executive Masters of Business Administration at QUT.

In 2012, I was appointed CEO for Common Ground Queensland, the states first specialist provider of supportive housing. During this time I became a graduate of the Australian Institute for Company Directors (AICD) and served on the boards of community service organisations and government bodies. 

In 2022, I left my CEO role to complete my Masters of Counselling and embark on a career change.

Since completing my Masters degree I have worked in not for profit counselling services that provide individual and group sessions to a diverse range of clients. I have also completed accreditation in delivering individual and group supervision using the Rise Up model.
